Amman, September 20 (Petra) – Jordan condemned the storming of the Al Aqsa Mosque by extremist Israeli Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and groups of extremist settlers, operating under the protection of Israeli occupation police.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Sunday described the intrusion as a flagrant violation of the historical and legal status quo at Al Aqsa Mosque, a desecration of its sanctity and an unacceptable escalation and provocation.

Ministry Spokesperson Fuad Majali affirmed the Kingdom's absolute rejection of ongoing incursions by ministers, officials and extremist settlers, alongside the facilitation of these acts by Israeli occupation police.

He deemed the Israeli violations a blatant breach of international law and international humanitarian law, characterising them as reckless attempts to impose new realities on the ground through temporal and spatial division.

Majali warned of the severe consequences of these ongoing violations, stressing that Israel holds no sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem or its Islamic and Christian holy sites.

He called on the international community to adopt a firm stance compelling Israel as the occupying power to halt its illegal practices and cease all measures restricting worshippers' access to the mosque.

He reaffirmed that the entirety of Al Aqsa Mosque, covering 144 dunams, is an exclusive place of worship for Muslims. He reiterated that the Jerusalem Awqaf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Administration of Jordan’s Ministry of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs, and Holy Sites, is the sole legal authority to manage all affairs of Al Aqsa Mosque and regulate access to it.
